{"id":6030,"date":"2019-10-11T19:22:24","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T19:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.healthandsafetyhelp.ca\/employer-advice\/duties-to-employers\/"},"modified":"2025-01-10T16:31:05","modified_gmt":"2025-01-10T16:31:05","slug":"duties-to-employers","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/healthandsafetyhelp.ca\/sa\/employer-advice\/duties-to-employers\/","title":{"rendered":"Duties of Employers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><b>Duties of Employers Saskatchewan<\/b><\/h1>\n<h2><b>The collective commitment to health &amp; safety\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Saskatchewan, everyone has a legal obligation to ensure workplace safety in accordance with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saskatchewan Employment Act.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Everyone in the workplace is required to:\u00a0<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be aware of their responsibilities.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have required knowledge (education, training, and certification).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be provided with the authority, resources, and necessary time.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Your responsibilities as an employer\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As an employer, you\u2019re required to meet the minimum health &amp; safety requirements as set the Saskatchewan Employment Act, including providing a copy of the Act to your employees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>As an employer you must:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure a safe and healthy workplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Develop and maintain an effective health and safety program.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Establish an Occupational Health Committee (OHC) or appoint a health and safety representative.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cooperate with your OHC (or rep) and receive input on your health and safety program.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ensure managers and supervisors are trained, supported, and fulfill their workplace health and safety requirements.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Measure the health and safety performance of your managers and supervisors.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Provide workers with the information, training, certification, supervision, and experience to safely do their job.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Keep meeting minutes OHC or rep on file and readily available.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Protect workers from harassment in the workplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Meet all legal health and safety requirements.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Still need help?\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you still need help understanding your responsibilities to health and safety as an employer in Saskatchewan, we can help.
