The responsibility of this individual or group is&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to address health and safety concerns in the workplace.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;The requirements are as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Employers of 20 or more workers must establish a joint&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">o<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ccupational<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">health and safety committee<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Employers with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">9<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">-19 workers must have a health and safety representative<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Note that&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a joint&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">health and safety committee<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">must<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">consist&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">of a minimum of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;4 members with at least half of the members representing the workers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;of the business<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">while&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a health and safety representative<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">must be<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">selected by workers&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">at the workplace.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;Committee members and representatives&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">must not exercise managerial functions and<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\/or<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;appointed by the union<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The responsibilities of a Joint Work Site Health and Safety Committee<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The committee plays an advisory role in the workplace and participates in the following:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Refusal to work reports<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All worksite investigations and inspections<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Development of health and safety policies, procedures and training programs for workers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">; and<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Communication between workers and employer regarding health and safety at work<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As a legal requirement, the joint work site health and safety committee must:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ha<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ve&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">two<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;co-chairpersons, one chosen by the employer and one chosen by workers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hold a meeting at least once&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a month<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Record meeting minutes to be available for inspection by a committee member or&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Occupational Health and Safety<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">O<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fficer<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">; and<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">R<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">eceive eight hours of&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mandatory&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">training and instruction.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233279&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If a workplace has a health and safety representative, the employer and representative will decide how often to meet and how to record them.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;A&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">worker health and safety representative<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">must receive four hours of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;mandatory<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;training and instruction.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Employer responsibilities<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">As an employer, you are required to:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Provide<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;resources, time and training&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">to allow your committee to function properly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Permit the committee to carry out meetings and&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">related&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tasks during work hours<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Arrange&nbsp;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">committee co-chairs and representatives with training of their roles and functions<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">; and<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Post names and contact information of committee member<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;in an area visible to all workers<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&nbsp;<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Questions?
